I've had quite a break from the blog, I wonder if any one is still viewing it?
I recently watched a program on Channel 4 entitled "Why dont you speak English?" It was an interesting documentary about the reality faced by 4 immigrants to the UK, and how they often become trapped in their own communities, with no work, as they find it so hard to learn English, which is essential to get a job.
ReplyDeleteI applaud channel 4 for trying to show a human response when our government and media are ready to stir up ignorance and suspicion with poster campaigns telling immigrants to go home. This sort of assault has an impact on children of immigrants, who can grow up in poverty, and believe that they are unwanted here, despite often being British Citizens. They put up with this because it is better than the refugee camp their parents left behind.
